Elope on the Isle of Skye...

A Place to Elope on Skye that Suits You.

There’s nothing packaged or over done at Coruisk House. No need for grand themes.
On Skye, the setting says it all. Our renovated croft house, near the end of the road at Elgol, with the Cuillin above and the sea lapping at the edge of the shore. Weather comes and goes. What matters stays steady. The fire is lit, the cooking is delicate and the wine, just right.

You can marry by the loch, up on the hill, or indoors. Some people wear old wool coats, others dress for the photographs. Some bring a parent. Or a dog. Or nobody at all. It isn’t a show. There’s no pressure to tell a story. Just time to be in it with the person you’ve chosen to spend the rest of your life with.

Stay With Us at Coruisk House

Many couples stay a few nights. Some stay longer. We have four rooms at Coruisk, each comfortable, thoughtfully designed, with antiques, cozy beds and thick linen. The self-catering cottage is a short walk away, private and quiet, with space to cook or just be.

The food at Coruisk is grounded in what’s local and what’s in season. Shellfish from the loch. Wild venison. Vegetables grown nearby. You’ll eat properly. With time between courses. With wine that’s perfectly chosen for the food.

Planning Your Elopement on Skye

You can spend your time walking, exploring or staying in. There are boat trips from Elgol to Loch Coruisk, hills to climb, beaches to reach only on foot. Or just the weight of being somewhere still. Some guests read, some wild swim, some disappear for hours to connect with the wilderness of Skye. There’s no itinerary unless you want one.

We don’t offer elopement packages. But we know how to help. We can guide you through the legal details, connect you with celebrants, photographers and others we trust. And then step back. The space, the food, the house, the landscape—yours.

Isle of Skye Elopement FAQ

Can we legally elope on the Isle of Skye?

Yes. In Scotland, you can legally marry outdoors or indoors, almost anywhere, as long as you have a registered celebrant or registrar and a valid marriage schedule. Skye is one of the few places in the UK where your ceremony can be held in nature, legally. You’ll need to submit your paperwork to the Highland Council at least 29 days before the date.

Where can we have our ceremony?

You can marry at Coruisk House—inside by the fire, out on the hillside, or by the loch. Loch Coruisk itself is a popular choice for its dramatic setting, accessible by boat or a walk from Elgol. We’ll help you figure out the logistics based on your preferences, weather, and how far you want to walk.

Do we need witnesses?

Yes. Scottish law requires two witnesses aged 16 or over. If it’s just the two of you, we can act as witnesses—or bring in someone local who’s familiar with elopements.

What’s the weather like?

Unpredictable. That’s part of it. Rain and wind come and go quickly here, and some of the most atmospheric ceremonies happen in less-than-perfect weather. Bring layers, decent footwear, and a mindset that doesn’t mind a bit of rain. We’ll always have a warm indoor space ready if the forecast turns.

Do you offer all-inclusive elopement packages?

No. We don’t offer styled or packaged elopements. But we do provide space, accommodation, exceptional food and wine, and local guidance. We’ll point you to celebrants, registrars, florists and photographers we trust, but you’re free to choose what fits you.

How far in advance should we plan our elopement?

As early as possible, especially if you’re hoping for spring or summer dates. Some couples book a year ahead to secure both accommodation and preferred celebrants or photographers. That said, last-minute plans can sometimes work too—we’re happy to talk it through.

Can we bring guests?

Yes, in small numbers. We have four guest rooms at the house and a self-catering cottage a short walk away. Some couples bring a parent or two, close friends, or children. We can accommodate up to 12-14 guests depending on how the bookings are arranged, with use of our thatched cottages.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes, if you’re staying in the cottage. The house rooms aren’t dog-friendly, but the cottage is private and ideal for couples travelling with a dog.

What’s the accommodation like?

Our rooms are warm, thoughtfully furnished, with antique pieces, handmade beds and thick linens. The self-catering cottage is fully equipped and set slightly apart for privacy. Breakfast is included with room bookings; dinners can be booked and are seasonal, slow and carefully made.

What should we wear?

Whatever feels right. Some dress traditionally, others more casually. We’ve seen wedding dresses with boots, wool jumpers, tweed, silk, and everything in between. Just be prepared for wind, rain, sun—or all three in one day.

What is there to do around Elgol and Coruisk House?

You can take a boat trip to Loch Coruisk, walk in the Cuillin, visit beaches only accessible on foot, or stay put and let the quiet work on you. Some guests swim, hike, read, cook, sleep. There’s no pressure to ‘do’ anything.

Can you recommend Skye elopement photographers or florists?

Yes. We know a small group of photographers, florists and celebrants who work sensitively, understand the land, and won’t turn the day into a shoot. We’re happy to share names once your booking is confirmed. Take a look here
