Welcome to Coruisk House – our home in the fishing village of Elgol on the spectacularly beautiful Isle of Skye.
Since 2011, we have been turning our croft house home into a small and intimate restaurant with rooms on the wild side of Skye; close to the wonder of the world that is Loch Coruisk.
Our en-suite rooms offer chic and cosy accommodation and our suites in The Steading offer luxurious stays. You’ll find an antique chair or two and little luxuries to please the eye and comfort the body and soul.
We have the Cuillin Range, coastal walks, boat trips to Loch Coruisk and the Small Isles of Rum and Canna right on our door step.
Coruisk House is ideally suited for couples looking to walk, climb, explore and experience this spectacular part of the island. We strive to provide an oasis of comfort, welcome, ambrosial food, cocktails and wine at the end of the each day.
Our location offers the most stunning and majestic scenery on Skye. Our nearby coastlines and shores are teeming with wildlife – whales, seals, dolphins, basking sharks, eagles, puffins, deer and otters.

Clare Winskill
Coruisk House is shaped by the landscape it sits within — and by the people who care for it. At its heart is Clare Winskill, whose love for Skye, hospitality and the quiet art of welcome is woven into every part of the house.
Drawn to Elgol by the stillness of Loch Coruisk and the drama of the Cuillin, Clare made Skye her home and transformed Coruisk House into a place of calm, comfort and understated luxury. At Courisk, hospitality is unhurried and thoughtful: beautifully prepared rooms, a deep respect for the surrounding landscape, and the simple pleasure of freshly baked bread made in-house and shared around the table.
Clare believes that true luxury lies in care, warmth and authenticity — creating an environment where guests can slow down, feel at ease and connect with the place they are visiting.
Beyond Coruisk House, Clare is a passionate advocate for the Scottish tourism industry, working to support sustainable, community-led tourism across the Highlands and Islands. Her commitment to stewardship, integrity and place underpins everything she does, both at home and beyond.
Dogs are very much part of life at Coruisk House. Four-legged companions are warmly welcomed to share coastal walks, quiet moments and the gentle rhythm of island living.
Through thoughtful hospitality, good bread, muddy paws and a deep love of Skye, Clare has created a house that feels less like a hotel and more like a home — a place to arrive, exhale, and belong.
Iain Roden – Chef at Coruisk House
Most chefs don’t conduct orchestras between breakfast service and dinner prep — but then again, most chefs didn’t train as lawyers before discovering their calling in the kitchen.
Iain came to professional cooking via law degrees and philosophy, not culinary school. This unconventional path freed him to let Skye’s exceptional ingredients lead the way, building dishes around what the island offers each season rather than adhering rigidly to classical techniques.
At Coruisk House, Iain’s cooking is rooted entirely in locality. Shellfish from the renowned waters around Skye, fish from the previous night’s catch, venison from the island, hogget and mutton from just down the road — which he cures into a herbed pancetta. His four-course set menu changes throughout the week, giving him space to develop each dish properly and the freedom to serve things guests might not otherwise order: langoustine bisque, chanterelle and truffle soup, dishes that celebrate the landscape they come from.
Then there’s the wine. Iain fell in love with Burgundy years ago, and now the list boasts over 50 Burgundies alongside carefully chosen Rhônes, Clarets and Italian wines. His approach aims to be unpretentious — guests need to know whether a wine is big or graceful, and any number of bottles might work beautifully with each dish.
Beyond the kitchen, Iain conducts the regions (Skye and Lochalsh) amateur orchestra, bringing the same commitment to community and place that defines his cooking. Whether conducting musicians or composing menus, he understands that serving others — in whatever form — is both a privilege and a responsibility worth honouring.
Kirstie and Andrew Bennett
We are Kirstie and Andrew Bennett. Originally from the Wirral and Kent, Skye has long felt like our second home. It captured our hearts so completely that we chose to marry in Torrin in 2016, and in 2021 we were lucky enough to buy our little cottage just down the road, where we live with our wonderfully grumpy cat, Hector.
Life on Skye has allowed us both to flourish. Andy has discovered a true passion for gardening, while Kirstie has found the perfect peaceful retreat for her writing and artwork. Her creative work is deeply inspired by the landscape and light of Skye, and many of her original paintings are proudly displayed – and available for purchase – here at Coruisk House.
We have always been drawn to Skye’s rugged wilderness, particularly exploring it by sea. Kayaking along the coastline remains one of our greatest joys, especially our favourite journey from Elgol pier into the secluded, breathtaking beauty of Loch Coruisk, with its crystal-clear waters and abundant marine life.
We have been part of the Coruisk House family since 2019 and take great pride in welcoming guests to this special place. Andy is our resident mixologist, renowned for his beautifully crafted cocktails and his warm, engaging presence in the dining room each evening – always ready with a smile, a story, and the perfect drink to end your day. Kirstie, as housekeeper, brings the same care and creativity to every room, ensuring your space is immaculate, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared for a truly relaxing stay.
